What To Expect During Your Upcoming Roofing Project

Having your home’s roof repaired or replaced is a great way to not only add value to your home, but also a way to provide additional protection for your family and personal belongings. When you are scheduled to have roofing shingles replaced or if you are in the market for an entirely new roof, it is important to know what to expect during your next roofing project. Knowing how to prepare for an upcoming roofing repair or replacement can prevent potential delays, hazards, and other unexpected or inconvenient issues from arising.

Before Project Start

Before the roofers arrive at your home, there are a few steps to take to ensure you are fully prepared for their arrival and for the project to begin.

Financials: Getting your financials in order is essential, especially if you are taking out a loan or working with your mortgage company on obtaining a brand new roof for your home. The check for your roofing services should be endorsed and ready prior to the arrival of the roofers who have been assigned to the project. You may require an initial endorsement from a mortgage if applicable, depending on your preferred method of payment for the roofing installation.

Clean Up Clutter: Remove and clean clutter from your front and backyard. Move decorations and other valuables that may be within your garden or yard(s). Take down and remove any items that are loosely attached to exterior walls of your home to prevent damage. Moving belongings out of the way of roofers prior to their arrival will help to streamline the process.

Lawn Preparation: One week before a roofing installation project begins, mow your lawn to ensure that the cleanup of fallen nails, shingles, and other debris is as quick and easy as possible. You should also avoid using sprinklers for at least one day leading up to your roofing installation. Too much water on your lawn and within your yard’s soil may cause more mud tracking once the roofing crew arrives on scene. If your lawn is extremely muddy, you may find a much bigger mess with the movement of equipment and materials around the outside of your property.

During Installation

Once your roof installation date arrives, there are additional preparations you can take to streamline the process so it goes as smoothly as possible.

Electrical Preparation: It is imperative to avoid the risk of shock or electrical issues while your roof is being worked on and/or replaced. Turn off any outdoor electrical items such as pool pumps and other external belongings that do not need to be on while the roofing crew is on your property. Turning off your pool pump will also allow the roofing crew to easily access and safely tarp the pool to protect it from potential falling debris.

You should also ensure that your electricity is accessible to the roofing crew for their equipment and any tools they may require. If you do not have outdoor outlets, the crew may require additional access to your garage to supply power to their tools and equipment.

Clear Your Driveaway: Make your driveway as accessible as possible for the roofing crew to work in, as materials and equipment may be dumped and retrieved from the space. It is best to clear the driveway the night before your installation date to prevent any delay on completing your roofing install.

Pets: We ask that you make plans for your pets during the day(s) of installation, if necessary. We will require open access to your yard at all times throughout the installation, which means we may need to keep your gates open for hours at a time.

Post Installation

After the installation of your new roof is done by our roofing crew, there will be a few steps to take to ensure the process is entirely completed to your satisfaction.

Satellite Dishes: During the process of a roof installation, satellite dishes are detached and typically reset. When this occurs, homeowners may require a manual reset or calibration by their service provider once the roofing crew re-attaches the dish to the home.

Post-Inspection:  Stick around, as we need you! Once the install is complete, we will need to further inspect your home’s garage as well as its attic for both furnace and water pipe connections. This will provide us with an overview of the home’s structure as well as the plumbing as it relates to your home’s roof install.
